The awards, a festive occasion that elicited a lot of cheering and also some tears as award winners were announced on the the packed patio, also honored many other women and allies, with beloved party brand and label HE.SHE.THEY winning for best record label, Lightning in a Bottle winning for most diverse festival and The Martinez Brothers appearing to accept the Ally Award, among many other winners.

The event started with moving speeches by Barbara Tucker and Crystal Waters, who were honored with the Voice of House award for the prolific contributions they’ve made to the genre over the years. So too were DJ Minx and DJ Lady D each honored with the Pioneer Award for their everything they’ve each done to break barriers…

These awards will acknowledge contributions to the culture through a variety of categories. Some focus specifically on music: Best Sound Designer, Best Album Or EP, Best Vocalist. Others shift attention towards further aspects of the industry: Best Club, Agent Of The Year, Most Diverse Festival. There are also a select few community awards that are open to voting from the public…

Femme House, the non-profit organization dedicated to creating equity in music, has announced an extensive lineup of programming for Women’s History Month. ..A major highlight of this year’s activations is the launch of the inaugural Femmy Awards, set to take place on March 27 at Miami’s Palm Tree Club in partnership with Billboard.

Happening at Palm Tree Club — the waterfront hotel opened by Kygo’s Palm Tree Crew this past December — the March 27 event will honor artists, agents, managers, engineers, allies event brands and other figures across the industry who’ve worked to make the dance scene a more inclusive and representative space.

This conversation featured…a dynamic lineup of panelists such as Ronny Ho (Head of Dance and Electronic Development at Spotify), Heather Church (Vice President, Talent & Marketing at Club Glow, Echostage, Soundcheck), Stephanie Karten (A&R Director at Armada Music US), Julia Fugazy (General Manager at Bedouin Music Inc), and Bailey Greenwood (Booking Agent at WME).

Femme House, an organization that champions a more diverse dance music scene, is returning to Miami Music Week, but that's not the only announcement. In a vibrant celebration of Women's History Month, Femme House, the nonprofit founded by DJ/producer LP Giobbi, proudly unveils its highly anticipated 14-track compilation Femme House Vol. 2, released in collaboration with Insomniac Records.

Last March, as lush south Florida humidity hung thick over the secluded back lawn of the W Hotel in Miami Beach, a crowd of about fifty electronic music industry insiders congregated on rows of white picket benches under a canopy of giant pool umbrellas. “We’re at Miami Music Week and it’s Femme House’s first time here,” hermixalot tells Gray Area.

A non-profit organization founded by renowned DJ and producer LP Giobbi and HERMIXALOT, Femme House has been making waves in the electronic music scene since its inception. With a mission to empower and support female and gender-expansive DJs and producers, Femme House has quickly become a beacon of hope and opportunity for a generation of aspiring artists.

The courses focus on a mix of Ableton and DJ technique, as well as discussions on music history: Mary Droppinz and Geexella will lead lessons on DJ mixing for beginners, troubleshooting and creating a safe dance floor; Mini Bear and Lorna Dune will cover vocal and live production skills; and HERMIXALOT and Geexella will get into how dance music and activism have been inextricably linked in the past and present.
