ABOUT KARA:

Kara Levchenko is a Washington, DC-based singer/songwriter, producer and music teacher whose genre-bending sound places soulful vocals at its core. Kara is a full-time artist and topliner in the EDM scene, in addition to producing her own music. Most recently, her voice can be heard on Never Let Me Go (Wakaan Records) with AG and Papa Jay, and To Herd a River with Josh Teed. Kara is also the founder and organizer of DC’s Sapphic Songwriter and Sapphic Dance Party events; uplifting queer voices and DJs in the music scene. Her most recent Sapphic Dance Party sold out Songbyrd Music House this past March, and raised over $400 for DC Migrant Mutual Aid Solidarity fund.

Kara holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Vocal Music Education from James Madison University where she received classical and jazz training. Her master’s thesis, “Secondary Music Educators’ Perceptions of and Relationships with Dominant Narratives Through Personal Philosophy, Pedagogy, and Practice,” explores alternative approaches to traditional large ensemble music education and urges readers to consider expanding their idea of what and how we teach music in schools to better serve students’ interests as they move forward in their music-making journeys. Currently, Kaea works part-time at The Madeira School where she serves as their musical theatre director and teaches chorus, private voice, piano, guitar, and music production lessons.

Kara’s classical vocal training, deep knowledge of music theory and 9 years of teaching experience combined with her love of electronic music and producing make her a compelling new force in the electronic music scene.
